Finance Council
Mission The Finance Council is responsible for the oversight of the parish’s stewardship of its human and material resources.
Established by the Code of Canon Law (Canon 537), the Council is made up of parishioners “truly skilled in financial affairs as well as in civil law, of outstanding integrity” (cf Canon 492), who advise the pastor in regard to the temporal affairs of the parish in accordance with archdiocesan financial policies and the civil law. Membership The Finance Council at St Patrick is to be made up of not less than five, and not more than seven permanent members, appointed by the pastor. The Pastor and the parish Business Manager serve ex officio on the Council. Meetings The Finance Council will meet at least five times a year on the third Tuesday of the month, as indicated by an annual calendar to be published in August. Extraordinary meetings may be called as needed by the Chairperson or at the request of any two permanent members. Duties & Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Finance council include, but are not limited to the following:
- Review monthly parish financial reports compared to budget.
- Review six-month and year end reports that are submitted to the Chancery
- Oversee the preparation of the annual parish budget and make recommendation for its approval to the Pastoral Council.
- Oversee an annual parish internal audit.
- Ensure communication of financial information to all parish members at least on an annual basis
- Review all unbudgeted expenditures over $1,000
- Collaborate with the parish Stewardship Team to ensure adequate revenues to support the budget
- Ensure adherence to Archdiocesan financial policies.
