Leprechauns
The
Leprechauns are a fun-loving, inclusive, and fast-growing group of
parishioners 65 and older. The secret to the group's growth -- more
than 20 percent in each of the past two years -- might be the frequent
opportunities for fun, fellowship, and mutual support. They gather on
the first Thursday of each month for fellowship, lunch, and a guest
speaker. Frequent outings and fine dining opportunities also are
offered. Special parties are scheduled for St. Patrick Day, July
Fourth, and Christmas. The Leprechauns also serve the parish as sages
and wisdom figures on various parish leadership groups, including
Pastoral Council, Athletics Council, Generations of Faith Planning
Team, and Christ STEPs Ministries. Members provide mutual support
during times of illness. "I think it is especially important in a
parish where the median age of all parishioners is so young (36 years
old), that we have the benefit of the experience and wisdom of the
elders in our community," said Father Tom Boland, pastor. "The
Leprechauns have embraced this notion and have stepped forward to take
positions in the ministries and leadership of the parish. I believe the
community is greatly enriched by their active involvement."
Men’s Club
The
St. Patrick Men's Club provides opportunities for all men of the parish
to join in fellowship through social and service activities, September
through May. Social activities include the St. Patrick Day Dance
(Saturday prior to March 17), Night at the Races (January), Men’s
basketball and Men’s softball leagues, and the annual Celtic Classic
Charity Golf Scramble (May). Service activities include staffing the
St. Vincent DePaul truck during its stopovers at St. Patrick, hosting
Coffee and Donuts twice annually, and helping out at Lenten Fish Frys.
The Men's Club has created fellowship opportunities for the whole
parish since the early days, including pancake breakfasts at the
Eastwood Community Center when Sunday mass was celebrated there more
than 16 years ago.
