I can not believe this wonderful year has come to an end.
I will miss everyone! Enjoy the summer!
Schedule-3rd trimester
:
Home Folder
Each Friday a folder containing your child’s weekly work will be sent home. Please sign and return the folder on Monday. Be aware that much of your child’s work will be kept in their subject notebooks. Please glance at these from time to time.
Newsletters
Newsletters will be posted on 5C’s class page on the St. Patrick website. It will contain weekly updates of what your child will be learning as well as reminders about other happenings in the school.
Absences
If your child is absent, please let the office know if you want work sent home. I will do my best to accommodate your request. When your child returns, please send me a note stating the reason for the absence.
Homework
If your child does not have their homework completed they will receive a “homework card”. This must be signed by a parent, stapled to their completed assignment, and returned the next school day. Homework is expected on time. Students will be docked 10% for each day the assignment is not turned in.
Ms. Scott, Mrs. Kohl, and I will work together to see that your child receives an age appropriate amount of homework. Some students go through an adjustment period the first couple weeks of school. If by the third or fourth week you feel your child is having difficulty with homework, please contact me.
Behavior
Students are expected to follow the rules stated in the student handbook. Failure to comply with the rules will result in the following consequences. (a verbal warning will be given prior to the referrals) 1st minor offense – minor referral/parent notification/ loss of ½ of recess 2nd minor offense in a trimester – major referral/parent notification/ loss of ½ of recess and detention to be served the last Monday of each month after school from 2:45 – 3:30
Weekly Reading Assignment
Enclosed in the home folder you will find a reading assignment with instructions. Your child needs to read the selection out loud to you and answer the questions. Students will also be quizzed on the selection the following Friday. The assignment, with a parent’s signature, will be due every Friday. This gives your child the opportunity to complete it over the weekend if they so choose.
Writer’s Notebook
Writer’s notebooks are an essential part of the writing program. Your child will write their thoughts, observations, and experiences, and become a much better writer by noticing the world around them. They will also practice what they learn in writing lessons taught weekly. Every week students will be required to complete two pages front and back. I will check notebooks every Friday.
Book Orders
About every month your child will receive scholastic book order forms. They usually have great deals, and are an excellent way to obtain age appropriate reading material. You will even find books about topics we are studying in class. When ordering, please pay by check, and place in an envelope with your child’s name on it.
Birthdays
It has become a school policy that students may no longer bring in birthday treats. Their birthday will still be announced during the morning announcements and they will receive a cafeteria treat. They will also be recognized in the classroom.
