First Communion

First Holy Communion is celebrated by second-grade children and their parents in the spring. Our sacramental preparation process is carried out through a partnership between parents and the parish. Parents fulfill eight simple lessons with their child. Each lesson takes about 30 minutes. The lessons can be found in the text Eucharist: We Give Thanks and Praise published by RCL Benziger. The parish provides a workbook for each child. Parents can access an online teaching guide to help them fulfill the lessons with their child. All materials are provided and explained by the Director of Lifelong Formation and Education during two parent meetings.

The child and at least one parent also participate in two workshops that utilize a number of stories and activities to review content about the sacrament and rehearse with the children. Childcare is provided during the parent meetings and for the workshops if parents request it. There is no fee for this service. First Holy Communion is celebrated at the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday, April 29, 2017.

Families wishing to participate in the preparation process for First Holy Communion must complete a sacrament form, attach a copy of the child’s baptismal certificate (unless they were baptized at St. Patrick), and return the form to Tammy Kessler, administrative assistant for faith formation, by January 15, 2017. [If you submitted a completed sacrament form for your child’s First Reconciliation, you DO NOT need to complete a second sacrament form.] Questions?
